Way back in December, Rich over at Wide Screen World
had a post where he discussed the five actors who would play him in a
movie of his life. I made a comment about how I thought the concept
would make a good blog-a-thon, and apparently the comment took root.
Being that I'm me, I'm going to do things a little differently. I'm
going to divide up those facets that make me.... quintessentially me,
and pick an actor to play that part. Think old Greek theater where
different actors wear those masks representing tragedy, comedy, and
other dramatic genres.
The Outer Shell - Seth Rogen:
About a year ago, Facebook lost its mind and perfectly normal people
started posting pictures of famous people that they thought looked like
them. Some folks CLEARLY had higher opinions of their physical beauty
than I did, but hey, I don't have to look at that particular mirror, so
what the hell, right? I couldn't think of anyone at the time, but the
more I think about it, the more I realize that there's a passing
resemblance between me and this doofus to my left.
I
don't like his work as a rule, but I do grudgingly admit that we have
some physical and personality traits in common. However, he doesn't really work
as...
The Inner Child - Ryan Reynolds.
The two of us look nothing alike, and I'm a little bitter about that
fact... but then, I don't have the spare money (or leisure time or
sufficient interest) to spend all my time in the gym. We may not look alike, but Reynolds
could perfectly capture my sense of wonder and whimsy, on those occasions when I let them out and he would certainly be able to put down an
Oscar-caliber performance as my sarcastic sense of humor.
I like
most of Reynolds' work, and even when I don't like his movies I tend to
think he's funny. Our quirky sense of humor is more than a little
similar, although I suspect I'm meaner than he is, which brings me to...
The Jerk- Daniel Craig. This
probably isn't the best way to describe myself, and it's not totally
correct, but I have a tendency to be a jerk in the hunt for humor. I
also can be cold and ruthless, and quick to anger all traits which we've seen Craig portray
very well on several occasions. In fact, he plays various forms of
asshole so well that I kind of have to wonder if he's being typecast. I don't think I've seen
him play someone who wasn't kind of an ass.
I dig
Daniel Craig, and not just because he's Bond. I like his movies,
although I refuse to see Cowboys & Aliens. Like me, it's pretty
clear that he enjoys the finer things in life, which brings me to...
The Afficianado- Anthony Hopkins. I'm
not sure when it happened, but at some point a LONG time ago, I picked
up snobbery as a personality trait. I have a fondness for people and things that bring some semblance of elegance to my life (strangely enough my movie taste is one of the few things about me that DOESN'T reflect this trait). I haven't fried up sweatbreads with onions and a fine chianti
yet, but I actually know what "sweetbreads" are, which should count for something.
Anthony
Hopkins... sophisticated portrayal of all of his characters has a BIG
streak of what I have a little streak of, and I think he could easily
handle this aspect of me. But, what he couldn't pull off is...
The... um, Outspoken - Adam Sandler. If
you missed the euphemism, what I probably meant to say was
"loudmouth". I, much like Sandler, have an aversion to the political
correctness movement that probably borders on the pathological and occasionally lands me in hot water. I also don't
have a problem speaking my mind either, even when I'm clearly losing it. I grew up in an environment where, if you weren't loud, you weren't heard, so I adapted. Maybe a little too well...
No topic is taboo, and no one is safe from ridicule. It's basically all that I still like about Sandler.
